MEASLES EPIDEMIC: What you need to know @PIP
The Measles epidemic in Rockland County shows no signs of abating in the immediate future.
Measles is a highly contagious illness which causes high fever, severe respiratory symptoms, and a generalized red rash.
There is no specific drug for treating Measles. Complications such as pneumonia or encephalitis could be fatal.
We at PIP urge all our parents to make sure all your children have received at least 2
MMR vaccines (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) by age 4 years.
Our policy is not to allow any patients into our office 12 months or older unless they have
received at least one dose of MMR vaccine.
The goal of this policy is to prevent possible exposure of infants under one year, immunologically compromised patients
and the community at large to the Measles virus.
